My Jeans Cost Less Than My Hair Dye

Nylon posted an article on their website this month called:

This story was published on August 1, 2011.

Here's a secret: I've never paid more than $50 for a pair of jeans. That seems impossible in the fashion industry - a place where $400 dresses are considered "affordable" - but thanks to my online shopping addiction, it's proven much easier than procuring a Coachella pass. (And yes, for the record, I'll still spend way more than $50 on concert tickets... sigh.)

Since you guys are constantly emailing (and Tweeting, and FB-ing, and - memorably at the latest Ellie Goulding concert - screaming) about great, cheap jeans, I figured I'd let you in on my blue jean list...

Cheap Designer Jeans: YOOX
It's not an oxymoron - cheap designer jeans really do exist on Yoox.com. The site has everything from Diesel to Chloe and Balenciaga. Many pairs are under $100, and in their clearance section, they've got Stella McCartney dungarees for $90 and below.
Major Score: J. Brand flares for $59.

Cheap Trendy Jeans: GAP
We never get tired of the denim innovations at the Gap, and their constant stream of on-trend items means you can copy a runway fad without paying a catwalk price - especially since most go on sale within a few weeks of their debut.
Major Score: Tailored trouser jeans for $29.99

Cheap Skinnies: Target Junior's Department
You've probably already penciled in a Target run for their Missoni launch this September, but you might want to go a little earlier... like right now. They've got Merona skinnies - which fit well and layer beautifully - on sale.
Major Score: Black skinny denim for $14.

Cheap Cutoffs: PacSun
PacSun makes your beach life easier (again) with their latest sale, which unloads all their denim shorts for $30 and under.
Major Score: Printed denim hip-hugger shorts for $20 each.

Cheap Dark Denim: J. Crew Online
J. Crew has Eddie Borgo and Michelle Obama on their side, and now they've got their deep-wash, okay-for-parental-visits denim on sale. It's only on their website though, so make sure you know your size and fit before you purchase.
Major Score: Denim boyfriend jeans for $40.

Cheap "Traveling Pants:" American Eagle
We don't believe in diets, but we do believe in jeans that fit you no matter what. The closest we've found to those magical "Traveling Pants" that stretch and shrink on command are the flares at American Eagle. I wear them, my roommate wears them, my friend wears them - and none of us are the same size!
Major Score: Bootcut jeans for $40.

Cheap Printed Jeans: Topshop
Novelty jeans are super-fun but they shouldn't be super-expensive. Topshop's floral print pants are just $30, and look retro enough to fit into the Telephone Hour of Bye Bye Birdie.
Major Score: Skinny ankle-zip daisy jeans, $30.

Cheap Distressed Denim: Blank Jeans at Bloomingdale's
Our fashion director, J. Errico, once taught me how to trash my own jeans using salt water, sandpaper, and a slamming door. If you'd rather skip the mess, Blank makes some worn-in flares that don't come with cleanup duty.
Major Score: Bell Bottom Jeans in First Aid Wash, $55
